Privacy and Ownership

At Smartedge, we devote ourselves to improving the way in which small businesses manage their finances. Consequently, we are very serious about protecting the privacy of our clients and other visitors to our web site.

Security

The information that you store with Smartedge is protected by industry-recognized security technology. Click here to find out more about how your data is secured.

Our Guidelines for Privacy

It is of utmost importance to us that you feel comfortable and confident when using Smartedge. Therefore, we continually strive to ensure that information you store or retrieve, using Smartedge, will be private to you and to those you have granted access rights to.

We work to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised alteration or access. If, through our monitoring systems, we find reason to suspect that someone is accessing your data without your approval, we will inform you as quickly as possible.

Protection of your Personally Identifiable Information

We use industry-recognized security safeguards to help protect your personally identifiable information (that you have provided to us) from loss, misuse, or unauthorized alteration. Whenever we prompt you to transmit sensitive information to us through our services, we support encryption of your data as it is transmitted to us.

We work to protect personally identifiable information stored on the site's servers from unauthorized access using industry standard computer security products, such as firewalls, as well as carefully developed security procedures and practices. All employees must review and sign a written statement of these practices, which include limiting access to sensitive information to only those employees who require such information and enforcing strict password protocols for all employees.

Here is how we use some common web technologies on our Web site:

Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of information that our web site provides to your browser while you are at our site. Cookies in themselves are harmless. Without cookies enabled you would for instance need to authenticate yourself for every page you open, and every time you want to retrieve data.

We never store your password or other sensitive information in cookies.

The type of information we store in cookies are your language preferences and country code, in addition to providing continuity between pages when you are signed on.

Javascript

We use javascript extensively on our web pages. Javascripts provide a faster service, because they are downloaded and executed by your browser. Our javascripts are harmless to your computer and cannot store or read any personal information on your computer. We do not download any applets or activeX objects to your computer.

Styles

We use style sheets to format the pages, to provide a uniform look and feel throughout the web site.

Caching

To improve performance, browsers cache pages on your computer. We use this functionality, to improve our service performance to you. Therefore, javascripts and style sheets will be cached on your computer, by your browser. These are then run from your computer, by your browser, the next time you need them. This ensures that these scripts (that will only ever change when a new version is released) do not need to be loaded from our web server, every time you access the page, which saves lots of download time.

Because of this, we may at times ask you to clear your cache (when a new release is launched), which is a very simple procedure. You will be guided through this, as and when needed.

Every time you sign in, we store some data to monitor your usage. The data we store is as follows: your user name, the client you sign in to, the time you signed in and out, your IP-address, and your host machine.

We use this data for two things only:

  1. To build anonymous user statistics. These provide us with user patterns and peak hours etc.
  2. To monitor for unauthorised access. If you suspect that there has been unauthorised access to your information, we use this data to back-trace any person who has signed in to your account, and from which IP-address and host internet server they accessed your information.

Ownership of Financial Data

All your financial data stored by Smartedge is your property and not the property of Smartedge. We do not disclose any of this data, in any form, to people that you have not granted access to the data.

The Terms of Service Agreement allows us to build industry or general statistics, provided that your business, or any part of your financial data, cannot be identified through this use. Users will not be notified about such use, so nobody will know which companies were used for such statistics.

We also reserve the right to use parts of your data to enable us to improve our service to you, or offer additional services to you, based on this data.

Company Information

We will not sell or in any way give away your company's address or other contact information to non-affiliated parties without your prior explicit consent.
